This Coke
bottle was
produced to
celebrate the
Giant Ferris
Wheel in
Forest Park,
MO.
In 1876,
Forest Park
was created
from 1,371
acres of land
west of
downtown St.
Louis. By the
1890s, the
public park
was widely
used for
recreation
with bicycle
paths,
baseball
diamonds and
lawn tennis
courts. The
western half
of the
metropolitan
park was used
as the site
for World's
Fair in 1904.
The "Giant
Wheel" is a
nod to the
1904 World¿s
Fair, when
another Wheel
was in Forest
Park. The
Wheel is
eleven stories
high and
offers
spectacular
views of
Forest Park
and
surrounding
areas.
Twenty-four
gondolas can
carry six
adults or
eight children
for a total
capacity of
144 to 192
passengers.
More than
12,000 colored
lights create
a spectacular
kaleidoscopic
light effect.
The Giant
Wheel is the
second largest
transportable
Ferris Wheel
in North
America.
